MINI HIGHLAND COW FOR SALE
36–42 inches at the hip · 500–700 lbs mature
Our Miniature Highland Cows offer the iconic look of traditional Highland cattle in a smaller, more manageable size. Known for their long shaggy coats, sweeping horns, and calm personalities, Mini Highlands are one of the most loved miniature cattle breeds for small farms, homesteads, and family ranches. Their hardy nature and gentle temperament make them easy to care for while still bringing the unique character and beauty of Mini Highland Cows.
The Mini Cow Ownership Guide
Our Mini Cow Ownership Guide is designed to help new and experienced owners confidently care for their miniature cattle. While mini cows are smaller and easier to manage than standard cattle, they still require proper housing, nutrition, and daily care.
Space requirements📏
Half an acre to one acre of usable pasture per mini cow for grazing, or a quarter acre per head in a dry lot with hay supplied. Two or three rotating paddocks beat one open field. Fencing should be woven wire, three-rail, or well-maintained electric at nose height for a short animal.
Companionship🐄
Mini cows are herd animals. Plan on two, or on a horse, donkey, or goat companion at minimum. A lone mini cow bawls, paces, tests fences, and loses condition. We will not place a single animal into an empty pasture.
Shelter🏡
A three-sided run-in with a dry floor and a wind break is enough almost everywhere. In hot regions, prioritize shade and airflow over walls. Highlands tolerate deep cold with no trouble at all.
🌿Feeding Needs
Roughly 2 to 2.5% of body weight in dry matter daily — about 12 to 18 pounds of grass hay for a typical mini. Free-choice loose cattle mineral, always-available clean water, and grain only as a training tool. Obesity is the number one health problem in pet mini cattle.
🪮Grooming Needs
Brush weekly, more during the spring shed. Grooming is also your health check: you will find ticks, lice, cuts, and weight changes with your hands long before you see them from across the field. Horned animals need occasional horn checks for cracks.
🩺Health care
Annual vaccinations, deworming based on fecal counts rather than a calendar, hoof trimming every 6 to 12 months, and a large-animal vet on file before your calf arrives. Budget a few hundred dollars a year per animal for routine care.
Inside Our Breeding Program
1. Artificial insemination
AI lets us bring in world-class genetics without hauling animals or keeping extra bulls on the place. We use proven, temperament-verified sires and time breedings carefully with our veterinarian.
2. Embryo transfer
For our strongest cow families, embryo transfer multiplies exceptional genetics while reducing the physical load on individual donors. Recipients are selected for calving ease and mothering ability.
3. Natural breeding
Pasture breeding still has a place, particularly for mature cows with a clean calving history. Our herd bulls are selected for disposition first, then structure, then type.
4. Genetic and chondro testing
Parent verification and DNA panels on breeding stock, including chondrodysplasia status. Carrier animals are never bred to carriers, and every animal’s status is written on its sales paperwork.
Our Health Guarantees
1. Veterinary examination
A licensed large-animal veterinarian examines every animal before it leaves the ranch, and findings are shared with you in writing.
2. Vaccinations and deworming
Age-appropriate vaccinations and parasite treatment are completed and recorded, with dates and products listed for your vet.
3. Health certificates
A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection dated within 30 days of travel, plus any state-required testing for your destination.
4. USDA paperwork
USDA-compliant documentation for interstate travel and full export certification for international buyers.
5. Travel preparation
Animals are hauled-out conditioned, hydrated, and fed before loading, and we send hay from home to ease the diet transition.

What Our Customers Say About Us
★★★★★
“I had never owned a mini cow before. They talked me out of the first calf I wanted because my fencing was not ready, then helped me fix it and sold me a better match a month later. That honesty is why I bought a second one.”
Doug R.
Bend, OR
★★★★★
“We drove four hours to pick up our Mini Highland heifer and she loaded like she had done it a hundred times. Six months in, she meets my daughter at the gate every afternoon. The handling they do before you ever see the calf is the whole difference.”
Marissa T.
Paso Robles, CA
★★★★★
“Cross-country transport to Tennessee had me nervous. The driver texted photos at every stop and our steer walked off the trailer eating hay like nothing happened.”
Angela and Pete K
Franklin, TN
★★★★★
“We bought a micro mini pair for our therapy program. They are gentle with wheelchairs, unbothered by noise, and the ranch still checks in on them a year later.”
